The present study was conducted in day old White Leghorn cockerels. An approximate medium lethal dose (ALD50) of alphacypermethrin used for the study was 562.5 mg/kg body weight. Sixty birds were randomly divided into five different groups, C1, C2, T1, T2 and T3. Alphacypermethrin was administered at dose rates of 14.0625 mg/kg, 18.725 mg/kg and 28.125 mg/kg for 28 days daily in corn oil. Blood sample was collected on day 15 and day 29 to study effect on various hematological and biochemical parameters. Alphacypermethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide significantly increased the activities of serum transaminases (ALT, AST), alkalne phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatinine (CRT) and serum glucose level, while it significantly decreased the total serum protein (TP), albumin (ALB) and globulin (GLB) level, but no alterations on hematological parameters in treated group of birds compared to control group of birds. The insecticide also produced adverse effects on kidney, lung, liver, thymus, spleen and bursa as observed in Gross pathological findings of the study. It is concluded that alphacypermethrin significantly altered the biochemical parameters in white leghorn cockerels after repeated oral exposure.
